In this presentation we look at the development of geopolitics as a concept and practice. The concept emerged in the beginning of the 20th century, as Geopolitik. Over decades of global diplomacy and international politics it was interpreted and developed by scholars from Germany, France, the United States of America and Britain among others.
We look at the contributions of Halford Mackinder, Alfred Mahan, F. Ratzel, Nicholas Spykman, Yves Lacoste, and the late 20th century views of American and Critical geopolitics.
